When | It was born in 1980. It is 11 August, the feast of St. Clare of Assisi. That day, on her name day, Chiara Lubich is in Switzerland with a group of people who make her wishes: it is a family feast. A deep communion is created. Si crea una comunione profonda.

Who | In the following days, from Chiara’s own home, a number of phone calls started to nourish the perceived reality of being ‘one focolare’. She keeps up to date with new discoveries in living intensely the spirituality of unity and with the news from the world.

How | In those days, the service of the “collective telephone conference” in Switzerland was discovered and it was immediately used. During the following weeks, this connection extended to other nations, until it reached all the countries where there are Focolare communities.

Why | In time and with the fast evolution of telecommunications, we move from telephone conferencing to streaming and satellite, because, Chiara said:

“a Work, which has unity as its ideal”, a family “now spread across the planet ” must share “among everyone, with the fastest and most appropriate means”, “joys, sorrows, hopes, projects”, experience “the love that goes and returns”, make the journey together, “the holy journey” of life.

For a united world | It is a strong and joyful experience of “unity and universality” that binds hundreds of thousands of people, spread across five continents, oriented towards universal brotherhood.
